TROY, Ala. – Veteran Alabama high school head coach Adam Winegarden is joining the Troy Football staff as the director of leadership and high school relations, head coach Gerad Parker announced Thursday.
Winegarden has spent the last three seasons at Tuscaloosa County as the program's head coach following successful runs at Auburn High School, Fairhope High School and Hillcrest High School. Additionally, Winegarden is a decorated author of "Lessons from the Goalpost" and has created the C.O.R.E Leadership Program in addition to the +10 Culture "Total Program Development."
During his career, 70 players have gone on to play at the collegiate level and 34 players have earned all-state honors. He finished his high school head coaching career with a 131-55 (.704) record and five region titles.
He inherited a Wildcats program that had won just 12 games in the six seasons before his arrival and led them to 11 wins in his final two years as head coach, including a 6-4 record in 2022, Tuscaloosa County's first winning season in nine years.
Winegarden led Auburn to a 56-19 record during his six seasons (2015-20) as the program's head coach, including three double-digit win seasons. He led the Tigers to a 12-2 mark and an Alabama 7A State Championship appearance in 2020 during his final season at Auburn.
He spent three seasons as the head coach at Fairhope (2012-14), leading the Pirates to a 28-8 record, including a perfect 10-0 regular season in 2014 in the school's first season at the 7A level in the state. Winegarden began his coaching career in the state with a two-year run at Hillcrest (2010-11), where he led the program to a 21-3 record, a pair of region titles and an Alabama 6A quarterfinals appearance.
Winegarden began his coaching career in the state of Georgia at Dalton High School for 10 years (2000-09), where he started as the quarterbacks and receivers coach before being promoted to the offensive coordinator for five seasons and eventually as the head coach for two years (2008-09).
He earned his bachelor's degree in exceptional learning (K-12) from Chattanooga in 2000 and his master's in K-12 education from Tusculum.
