TROY, Ala. – Troy Volleyball announced a challenging 2023 schedule on Wednesday featuring matchups against six NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, plus home matches against Alabama, Jacksonville State and Southern Miss.
Â
"We are excited about our 2023 schedule," head coach Josh Lauer said. "It's extremely competitive and really going to challenge us in the first four weeks of the season, but we feel like this is what our team needs to compete at the highest level in the Sun Belt and be prepared to compete for the Sun Belt championship in November."
Â
Following an exhibition match against Jacksonville State in Trojan Arena on Aug. 15, the Trojans hit the road for their first eight matches of the season, with six of those coming against teams who competed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament – Louisville, Wright State, Arkansas, Miami, Western Kentucky and Washington State. Four of those six teams won a game in the tournament, with Louisville making the National Championship Game.Â
Â
Troy opens its home schedule against Alabama on Sept. 14 at Trojan Arena in the first meeting between the two schools since the Trojans defeated the Crimson Tide, 3-1, in 2021, Troy's first win over Alabama since 1974 and first SEC win in 25 years. The Trojans close out the non-conference portion of its schedule against Grambling State the following evening.
Â
The Sun Belt Conference slate mirrors the past several years with consecutive matches against the same opponent. Troy hosts Southern Miss (Sept. 29-30), Arkansas State (Oct. 13-14), Texas State (Nov. 3-4) and Georgia Southern (Nov. 10-11) while traveling to Louisiana, Marshall, ULM and South Alabama.
Â
The Sun Belt Tournament will once again be held in Foley, Ala., with all 14 teams earning a bid into the event.
