TROY, Ala. – Troy Athletics and the Troy University IDEA Bank have teamed up to create an NIL Certificate Program to provide Troy student-athletes with a wealth of resources and tools to best equip them for the current Name, Image and Likeness marketplace.
"Troy Athletics has been at the forefront of NIL since its inception as we strive to provide our student-athletes with every possible resource to be successful on and off the field," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. "Troy University and the Troy IDEA Bank have been amazing supporters of our efforts to educate our student-athletes on how to take full advantage of their name, image and likeness, plus how to manage their finances effectively. The NIL Certificate Program is another tremendous resource at our student-athletes' disposal in the highly competitive NIL landscape."
The overall goal of the course is not only to further educate student-athletes on the opportunities that NIL presents and the rules/logistics associated with them but also to provide Troy student-athletes with access to tangible resources that will help them in their efforts to secure deals/partnerships or launch their own ventures.
"I could not be more proud of this innovative NIL education initiative developed by Lynne George (Director of the IDEA Bank) and Troy Athletics in support of our student-athletes," Dean of Sorrell College of Business Judson Edwards said. "Though this NIL program provides instant value for participants, perhaps most important is the positive lifelong impact it provides. Every student receiving this education will learn how to think and create like an entrepreneur, thus helping them long after their collegiate playing careers are over."
Linked directly to their Troy University Canvas accounts, the four-module program is self-paced in the areas of personal branding and social media, financial literacy and tax implications, NCAA compliance and getting started.
"The new NIL landscape within college athletics allows student-athletes to lean into their entrepreneurial spirit, and we want to support that at the IDEA Bank," Troy IDEA Bank Director Lynne George said. "We spent a lot of time building a well-rounded certificate program that will set students up with fundamental knowledge of how to approach and manage NIL while also providing unique resources and tips."
After completing the program, Troy's student-athletes will have the opportunity to enter the IDEA Bank database as an NIL-certified student entrepreneur and receive 1-on-1 NIL consulting with IDEA Bank staff members.
