Â
TROY, Ala. – Troy Football wrapped its second Spring Practice under head coach Jon Sumrall on Saturday as the Trojans held their annual T-Day Spring Game inside The Vet before a strong contingent of Trojan faithful. The White team defeated the Black, 36-22, in the game.
Â
The action on the field was just one piece of the T-Day puzzle which also saw more than 250 kids participate in a youth camp, and a soldout crowd was on hand for the Lunch With Legends panel, which featured Levi Brown, Boris Lee, Ted Clem, Ted Horstead and Steve McLendon, and drew an appearance from Hall of Fame head coach Larry Blakeney.
Â
"It was good action between both sides and the guys competed at a high level," Sumrall said. "We moved a lot of guys between both teams, so we didn't always have the continuity that you would have in a real game. I thought early offensively our skill position guys slipped and didn't get out of their breaks, so it maybe made the quarterbacks not look as good when it wasn't the quarterbacks' fault on some of the passes."
Â
Some of the Trojans' new additions showed off as quarterback Goose Crowder threw touchdown passes to tight end Ethan Conner and Landon Parker; all three joined the team prior to the spring. JD Sherrod and Tucker Kilcrease also had touchdown strikes on the afternoon.
Â
"We have a long way to go, and we're nowhere near ready to play a big-time game which we have plenty of those coming up in the fall," Sumrall said. "We are more efficient on both sides of the ball and know who we are. Last year at this time, we were still trying to figure out what our base calls were going to be and how we were going to function. We are lightyears ahead of that; we just have to get guys to play consistently at a high level."
Â
Parker put on a show with a pair of catches that covered 20-plus yards in addition to his 1-handed touchdown grab in the corner of the end zone.
Â
Defensively, Reddy Steward and Reggie Bracy had interceptions, while Tre Shaw forced a fumble on a sack, and Phillip Lee also had a sack. Freshman Ty'Quarius Perry and transfer Keyshawn Campbell were also both credited with sacks in the fourth quarter.
