TROY, Ala. – Troy men's golf head coach Forrest Schultz announced Thursday the addition of one of the top junior college golfers in the country, Laurenz Kubin, from Odessa College.
Kubin helped lead Odessa to a runner-up finish at last year's NJCAA National Championship with three rounds under-par as he tied for 14th place individually in the field of 131 golfers. A native of Holzleiten, Austria, Kubin earned NCJAA All-America honors as a freshman, participated twice on the European Tour and won a U18 and U21 Austrian national title; he peaked as high as 615 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
"Laurenz is one of the best junior college players in the country," Schultz said. "He has the ability to go low, performs well in major events and his amateur career is filled with wins worldwide. Our culture and practice facilities are going to provide Laurenz with a competitive environment and place where he can continue to grow his game. I am excited to work with him next fall and see what he will accomplish during his time at Troy."
He finished his freshman season at Odessa College with a 71.87 stroke average, where he ranked 19thnationally in the JUCO ranks. He has a 72.60 average through 25 rounds in his sophomore season and ranks 12th in the country per GolfStat. Kubin carries 13 career rounds in the 60s at Odessa, with 32 rounds of par or better.
Additionally, Kubin was the Lower Austrian Champion at the U18 and U21 levels and won the Vienna Championship at the U18, U21 and Men's levels, including a course record 8-under 63.
