Football Notebook – Moving Day, State of the Program, New Additions

TROY, Ala. – Troy heads into its first "Moving Day" of fall camp Saturday with the Trojans scrimmaging after eight practices over the past 10 days. The opening of fall camp has seen a balanced distribution of reps among most of the roster; however, Saturday's 100-play scrimmage is going to be an important audition as snaps will begin to become coveted.
"We're going to put the ball down and play the game of football," head coach Jon Sumrall said. "I want to see at quarterback who is going to execute at the line of scrimmage the best, who is going to make the throws that have to be made and who is going to command the offense. Who on the offensive line is going to move the line of scrimmage for us and protect the quarterback the right way. And on the perimeter, who can go make a big catch, and when their number is called can create something big for our offense and our team."
Late Arrivals to Camp
Troy welcomed a pair of late arrivals to fall camp this week with the addition of Mississippi State transfer Kyle Cass and German defensive end Fabian Rogosch.
"Kyle has a good body type, good length and athleticism and runs really well," Sumrall said. "He is a super-fast kid and will work at defensive back for us. Fabian came to camp this summer with one of the two international groups we had come through, more than 100 kids from Europe. Fabian did the camp with an injury and competed at a high level. He's got a great body type that will develop over the years, and he's got five years to play four, so he's like signing a high school kid, but that body type you can't find everywhere."
Cass, who has two years of eligibility remaining, played in one game for the Bulldogs last season after joining the program in 2020 as a three-star prospect out of Mississippi Delta Community College. Ranked as a top-30 JUCO cornerback by ESPN and 247Sports, Cass, a New Orleans native, prepped at Blount High School in Mobile.
Rogosch played for the Hamburg Iron Swans and boasts a 40-yard dash time of 4.69 seconds from his 6-foot-5, 240-pound frame.
State of the Program
Sumrall told his team following Friday's run thru practice that they were three weeks away from playing a game this time tomorrow. Troy opens the season at No. 24 Ole Miss at 3 p.m. on SEC Network on Sept. 3. So where do the Trojans stand 22 days from gameday?
"We've improved and built upon the stuff we did in the spring and the summer," Sumrall said. "The back half of this week, our offense has made a big jump, the first part of training camp, the defense was dominating. In order for us to be successful, we need all three phases to complement and support each other.
"We did a lot of teach stuff today with a lot of special teams situations," Sumrall added. "We did a lot of unique situations that might come up once a year, may not come up at all, but you just need to be prepared for them."
Fan Day
Football Fan Day is back on Saturday, Aug. 20, at The Vet. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. and is free to the public.
The football team will autograph posters ahead of the event for fans to take home; the Trojan Warrior Club will provide free food and drinks and fans will be able to take photos on the field following the scrimmage with their favorite position groups. Additionally, fans in the Troy area can pick up their 2022 season tickets during the event.
Football Kickoff Party
Football Fan Day is just the start of a busy day on campus as the annual Football Kickoff Party takes place in Trojan Arena from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are still available for the evening, which features a $10,000 grand prize, food and beverage, a silent auction, live auction and a chance to meet the Troy Football coaching staff.
