Â
TROY, Ala. – Troy is one of 20 overall schools and one of just three in the Group of Five with a pair of players selected to the Outland Trophy Watch List, released Tuesday morning. Left tackle Austin Stidham and defensive tackle Will Choloh both were selected to the watch list for the nation's top interior lineman.
Â
The Outland Trophy is the third-oldest major college football award. Created in 1946 when Dr. John Outland presented the FWAA with a financial contribution to initiate the award, the Outland Trophy has been given to the best interior lineman in college football ever since.Â
Â
Choloh, a senior from Lawrenceville, Ga., was the Sun Belt's top-rated run-stopper per Pro Football Focus last year and became just the third Troy player since 2000 to record at least 2.5 sacks, eight tackles and four tackles for loss in a single game when he did so against Liberty. He ranked in the top 10 among interior defensive linemen in the league in pressures and hurries as he finished the year with 40 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
Â
Stidham, a senior for Russellville, Ala., is a two-time All-Sun Belt First Team selection and is coming off a season in which he ranked 13th among all Group of Five tackles in pass blocking per Pro Football Focus. A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, Stidham was not called for a penalty in a passing situation all season and did not allow a sack in 8-of-12 starts.
