Kimani Vidal Named to Doak Walker Watch List

TROY, Ala. – Troy sophomore running back Kimani Vidal kicked off what is expected to be a busy watch list season for the Trojans as he was named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List on Wednesday.
The Doak Walker Award is presented annually to the nation's top running back and is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification. Ten semifinalists will be named in November, and three finalists will be chosen will be selected at the end of November.
Entering his third year with the Trojans, Vidal averaged 63.7 yards per game in 2021 as he rushed for 701 yards and five touchdowns on 152 carries. He led the Sun Belt and ranked 14th nationally for his production in October, averaging 120.7 yards per game.
Just a sophomore, the Marietta, Ga., native is less than 300 yards shy of cracking the all-time top-20 rushers lists for the Trojans and just four touchdowns shy of joining the career touchdowns list.
As a true freshman in 2020, Vidal ranked second nationally among all freshmen running backs and 21st overall averaging 3.83 yards after contact. He is a two-time All-Sun Belt selection and is one of the most versatile backs in the country after posting an 83.9 receiving grade by Pro Football Focus in 2020; the best by any Group of Five running back and fourth overall.
