TROY, Ala. – Troy's more than 400 student-athletes combined for one of the best academic semesters in department history this past spring as the group posted a collective 3.009 grade point average.
Â
"The opening message I share with each of our student-athletes the moment they step on campus is that we want them to leave with a degree in one hand and a championship trophy in the other," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. "I want to congratulate our amazing men and women of Troy for another outstanding semester in the classroom that saw 12 of our 16 programs post GPAs over a 3.0, with nearly 60 percent of student-athletes reaching that threshold as well. The hard work that each of our student-athletes demonstrate both on the field and in the classroom should be commended."
Â
Twelve of Troy's 16 athletic programs had team GPAs that surpassed the 3.0 mark, with eight of the Trojans' nine women's programs hitting that threshold. Volleyball combined for a near-perfect 3.82 GPA, its best semester mark since the spring of 2004, while women's golf, softball and women's cross country finished above a 3.50.
Â
On the men's side, golf led the way with a 3.40 GPA across its team and cross country was close behind with a 3.32 mark.Â
Â
All told, 57 percent of Troy's student-athletes finished the spring semester with a 3.0 GPA or greater, while 34 percent of Troy's student-athletes recorded a 3.5 GPA for the semester and 53 Trojans earned a perfect 4.0 in the spring.Â
