TROY, Ala. – Thursday, the Troy volleyball program announced its complete schedule for the 2022 season. The schedule will feature 11 regular season matches inside Trojan Arena and key matchups with Georgia, LSU, Penn State, Iowa State, and Auburn.
"Our 22 schedule is the most competitive in the history of the Troy volleyball program," head coach Josh Lauer said. "Our non-conference schedule is designed to allow us to become the best team we can be over the course of the entire season. We have worked hard over the last few years to earn the respect of some of the top volleyball programs in the NCAA, and our schedule reflects our willingness to play teams from all over the country."
Troy will host an exhibition match vs. Samford (Aug. 15) to begin the season and then travel to Athens, Georgia, for the Classic City Clash for matchups with the Georgia Bulldogs, Santa Clara, and UT Chattanooga. On Friday, Aug. 26, the match with Georgia will be broadcasted on the SEC Network.
The Trojan road trip continues to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for the LSU Tiger Challenge with three straight games against power-five teams, September 2-3, with matches against LSU, Penn State, and Iowa State.
The Trojans will be traveling for the third straight weekend as they stay in state and head to Birmingham to face off with North Florida, Auburn, and UAB in the Blazer invitational from Friday, Sept. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 11.
Alabama State comes to Troy Thursday, Sept. 15, to kick off the Troy Invitational, with Jacksonville and Gardner-Webb also participating. Troy will play Gardner-Webb on Friday, Sept. 16, with a matchup against the Dolphins on Sat. Sept. 17 at 3 p.m.
A 16-game Sun Belt slate opens at home against Louisiana-Lafayette Thursday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. before playing two new Sun Belt Conference members in Southern Mississippi and Marshall. Troy will go to Hattiesburg, Mississippi (Sept. 30, Oct. 1) to take on the Golden Eagles and come back and host Marshall on Oct. 6 and 7th.
Another quick two-game road trip takes Troy to Jonesboro, Arkansas, to match up with Arkansas State on Oct. 14 and 15th.
A four-game home stand kicks off with two matches with Louisiana-Monroe on Oct.21 and 22, with the final two home games of the season coming against rival South Alabama on Oct. 28 and 29th.
A four-game road trip concludes the regular season with a pair of matches in San Marcos, Texas, for the first time since 2019, as the Trojans will be looking for their first win against the Wildcats. The two final Sun Belt games will come from Statesboro, Ga., as Troy takes on Georgia Southern Friday, Nov. 11, and Saturday, Nov. 12.
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament will again be in Foley, Ala., at the Foley Events Center, running from Nov. 17 through the 20th.
Lauer and staff continue to take Troy volleyball to new heights after becoming the first coach in Trojan volleyball history to lead the Trojans to three consecutive winning seasons in Sun Belt conference play last season. The 2021 season also saw Troy knock off three power five opponents for the first time in program history (Alabama, LSU, Virginia Tech).
The Trojans made their second post-season appearance last season when Troy hosted and competed in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC), defeating Middle Tennessee in the first round. It was the second consecutive year the Trojans had made a post-season tournament.
