BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Cole Stewart, Marek Taskar and Julian Martin-Rogers failed to advance through the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary round on Wednesday at the Haugh Track & Field Complex.
"The three Trojans that competed today competed with heart, and although they didn't advance, their season was a successful one," track and field director Marc Davis said. "No matter how you look at it, when you get to this stage, you are among the nation's best. Although they didn't advance to the next round, contrary to popular belief, the season nor the meet was a failure for any of these athletes. We are proud of their accomplishments, and Trojan Nation should be as well."
The day started in the 110m-hurdles as Martin-Rogers took the track for heat five. Martin-Rogers finished sixth in the heat at 14.23 for his third-best run of the season. When the heats concluded, the junior ended up 41stoverall.
The men's throwers – Stewart and Taskar – fell short of advancing in the javelin throw. Stewart sat high on the board after his first throw marked 63.72-meters. However, the sophomore's second and third throws couldn't surpass his sixth-best throw of the season to finish 29th. Taskar finished behind Stewart after throwing 54.06-meters on his first throw for 46th.
Edita Sklenska is the sole Trojan in action tomorrow at 3:50 p.m. in the 800m.
