Troy Drops Conference Opener to ULM

MONROE, La. - Troy women's tennis falls in the conference opener, 4-0, against UL-Monroe, starting the weekend in the Bayou State 0-1.
The Trojans (5-7, 0-1 SBC) drop their conference opener for the third time in the last five years.
Down to the Third
Troy started doubles competition down, 1-0, after Anastasiia Khokhlova / Andrea Widing dropped the first match, 6-0.
Michelle Ncube / Kristina Kukaras fired back, taking their match 6-1, to tie it up doubles and left it to Franziska Ahrend / Olivia Elliott for match point of doubles.
Ahrend / Elliott dropped the third, ultimately giving the Warhawks (4-5, 1-0 SBC) the lead, 1-0, after losing their deciding match, 2-6.

Troy couldn't rebound its 1-0 deficit as singles fell the same way.
Khokhlova fell in the first, 2-6, 3-6, giving the Warhawks the 2-0 lead. Kukaras allowed ULM to put it to match point, 3-0, falling 2-6, 3-6 in her match.
Ncube kept the match in play despite falling 4-6 in the first match. Going into the second, Ncube wouldn't be denied the extra set, winning easily, 6-2.
Going into the third, Ncube looked to keep it alive. However, Brianna Gomez had other thoughts, completing the sweep over Troy, 4-0, with the 6-3 win.
