Â
TROY, Ala. – Troy left tackle Austin Stidham made history Tuesday, earning his third College Sports Communications (formally CoSIDA) Academic All-America honor. He becomes just the second student-athlete in school history to earn the honor three times. Stidham was named to the first team after appearing the last two seasons on the second team.
Â
A three-time All-Sun Belt First Team selection, Stidham was a finalist for the Campbell Trophy, presented annually by the National Football Foundation to the country's top student-athlete, an award that has been dubbed the Academic Heisman.
Â
Stidham played all 917 offensive snaps this past season for the 2022 Sun Belt and Cure Bowl champions allowing just four sacks while committing only two penalties.
Â
A native of Russellville, Ala., Stidham graduated with a degree in biomedical sciences with a 3.92 GPA, carrying only three Bs his entire undergraduate career, and he currently has a 4.0 GPA as he peruses his master's degree in education. Stidham passed on a lucrative medical career to follow his passion as a STEM teacher and football coach.
Â
Over his five-year career with the Trojans, Stidham started a program record 62 games, amassed 4,014 snaps, allowed just 14 sacks in 2,331 pass blocking situations and was called for only 13 penalties.Â
Â
Stidham joins Dave Banks (1983-85) from the Troy baseball program as the only three-time Academic All-American in school history.
Â
College Sports Communicators began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 38,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.
