Troy took a half to get the offseason rust off in its season opener, entering the half up by just three, 34-31.
1:26 into the second half, the Trojans kicked it into gear when Kieffer Punter opened an 18-8 run after rejecting Braxton Bertolette's shot which led to a fastbreak layup for the senior.
Once Punter opened the floodgates, Nelson Phillips scored 17 points in the second half. He followed up Punter with back-to-back buckets in the paint to propel Troy to its first double-digit lead, 43-33, with 17:32 remaining.
Next, Phillips expanded his range when the Warner Robins native drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to bring Troy's lead to 16, 51-35, and well out of reach for Montevallo. When the final buzzer went off, Troy walked away with the 20-point victory, 87-67.
Exhibition for MUW

Head coach Dean Burrows enters his second season coaching the Owls. He brings in a veteran group with 9-of-14 roster spots on Friday as upperclassmen.
