TROY, Ala. – The second round of tournaments will be underway for the Troy women's tennis team starting on Thursday when the team battles in the LSU Tennis Complex for the ITA Southern Regional.

The opening round of singles qualifying has Chiara Desia Dabarno, Andrea Widing, Olivia Elliott, Franziska Ahrend and Maria Guirguis battling for a spot in the main draw on Thursday. Thursday also sees Elliott / Widing compete in the qualifying round of doubles at 9 a.m.

Meanwhile, Valeriia Avdeeva and Kristina Kukaras compete on Friday in the singles main draw. Hagar Amin / Guirguis, Dabarno / Avdeeva and Kukaras / Ahrend all enter Friday as members of the doubles main draw.

The Trojans come off their opening weekend at the Georgia Southern Fall Shootout from Oct. 7-9, which saw the team accumulate a 7-13 singles and 2-7 doubles record.

Freshmen Avdeeva and Guirguis competed in their first collegiate tennis match and claimed their first singles and doubles victories over the three days.

Guirguis became the first Trojan to put one in the win column, opening her career with a 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-1 victory on Thursday against Kennesaw State – only Trojan to claim a win. The freshman continued the momentum on days two and three with her first doubles victory alongside Hagar Amin, 6-4, against Mercer, and her second singles victory, 6-2, 6-1, over Emory.

Avdeeva followed suit on day three, going a perfect 2-0 in her matches. First, the British School of Barcelona graduate claimed the singles victory over Emory's Eliza McPherron, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Then the Russian native joined Chiara Desia Dabarno to win in doubles, 6-4.
