Johnson Dubbed No. 66 in Elite Softball 100 College Player Rankings

TROY, Ala. – Leanna Johnson has started to rack in preseason accolades after being dubbed the No. 66 in the Elite Softball 100 College Player Rankings, Extra Inning Softball announced Monday.

After leading the Sun Belt in ERA (1.66), strikeouts (260), shutouts (7) and opposing batting (.166) average, Johnson was the highest ranked Sun Belt player.

Last season, the ace was also dubbed an All-Sun Belt First Team and NFCA All-South Region Second Team selection. She ranked 12th nationally in strikeouts, 14th in strikeouts per seven innings (10.1), 20th in shutouts, 22nd in hits allowed per seven innings (4.14) and 26th in victories (21).

The Brantley, Ala. native topped the 500-career strikeout mark in Troy's opening weekend of conference play at UT Arlington. A three-time Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week last season, Johnson also tossed a two-hitter to power the Trojans past Georgia Southern.

In Troy's first NCAA Regional appearance in 25 years, Johnson tossed a shutout to down Alabama State and earn Troy's first win in the Tuscaloosa Regional.

Johnson and the Trojans will open the 2022 slate playing host to the Trojan Classic Feb. 11-13. Troy's first game of the weekend will be Friday at 2 p.m. against the College of Charleston.
