TROY, Ala. – Troy senior Orlando Ortiz has signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers and will join the organization following a two-year career with the Trojans.
Â
Ortiz appeared in 19 games during his Troy career with 17 of those as the starting pitcher. He finished his career with an 8-5 record and a 4.13 ERA as he struck out 106 batters in just 96 innings of work. The Miami, Fla., native posted a 2.65 K/BB ratio over his career with the Trojans and walked batters at just a nine percent clip (40 walks issued in 426 plate appearances).
Â
Ortiz posted a pair of double-digit strikeout games this past season with 11 Ks in just six innings in a season-opening victory over Youngstown State plus a 10-strikeout performance in just five innings at Georgia State. He struck out six or more batters in nine of his 13 starts, and he finished the year averaging 10.97 strikeouts per nine innings.
Â
He is the second Trojan to move on to the professional ranks this offseason after center fielder Logan Cerny was selected in the 10th round of the MLB Draft earlier this week.
