Austin Stidham Named Academic All-American; First in Program History

TROY, Ala. – Austin Stidham has made Troy Football history by becoming the first player in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Monday.Â

Stidham, who was named to the second team, becomes the 17th Troy student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors since the program was instituted in 1952.

A junior offensive lineman from Russellville, Ala., Stidham is coming off an All-Sun Belt First Team season in which he ranked fifth nationally with an 85.6 pass blocking grade (min. 400 pass blocking situations) from Pro Football Focus (PFF). He allowed just two sacks, one hit, eight hurries and 11 pressures in 451 pass-blocking situations.

Called for just one penalty in his 742 total snaps played, Stidham was Troy's highest-graded offensive player per PFF. He played his best football down the stretch allowing just two pressures the last five games of the year combined. He was a leader on an offensive line that ranked second nationally per PFF with a 93.0 pass-blocking efficiency rating (teams at least 300 pass attempts).

Stidham will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology / biological sciences this summer, and he currently boasts a 3.91 GPA. He will begin work on his master's degree in secondary education (biology) this fall.

To be considered for Academic All-America status, students must not only maintain a minimum 3.30 GPA but must also be a starter or key reserve, competing in at least 50 percent of their school's contests.
