Troy Establishes Football Excellence Fund

TROY, Ala. – Troy Athletics and the Trojan Warrior Club announced Friday the establishment of the Troy Football Excellence Fund to support the Troy Football program and new head coach Jon Sumrall.Â

"As we enter a new era of Troy Football under the dynamic leadership of Jon Sumrall, I challenge all of Trojan Nation to join us as we establish a new standard of excellence within our football program," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. "Coach Sumrall has a comprehensive plan to take our program to the top of the Sun Belt Conference and the Group of Five. Now is the time for all members of the Trojan Family to unite and support our illustrious football program."

The Troy Football Excellence Fund features multiple levels in which Troy alumni and fans can contribute to the future success of the Troy Football program. An online giving portal has been created and can be accessed by visiting TroyTrojans.com/FBFund. The Troy Football Excellence Fund has a stated goal of $250,000 with a goal of $100,000 by the end of December 2021.

$1,000 – Program BuilderÂ
$2,500 – All-ConferenceÂ
$5,000 – All-American Â
$10,000 – Champion Â

The Troy Football Excellence Fund will immediately connect its members to the Troy Football program on a personal level. Donors will receive a commemorative poster autographed by Jon Sumrall and a personalized welcome letter. Additionally, members will receive an invitation to a spring practice with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the program with the coaching staff and key players. Also, members of the Troy Football Excellence Fund will watch the 2022 T-Day Spring Game from the sidelines of The Vet.

Sumrall will formally be introduced to Trojan Nation at a press conference Monday at 11 a.m. in the Stadium Club at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Sumrall's introductory press conference will be streamed live on Facebook (TroyAthletics) and Twitter (TroyTrojansFB).

One of the most highly regarded recruiters in the country, Sumrall returns home to Troy following a three-year run at Kentucky and one year at Ole Miss. He spent three seasons (2015-17) as the assistant head coach on Neal Brown's Troy staff.

During his tenure at Troy, Sumrall helped lead the Trojans to a pair of bowl victories, the school's first since 2010, the 2017 Sun Belt Conference title, and a stunning victory at LSU. The Trojans won a school-record 11 games in 2017, and the Troy defense ranked first in the nation in red zone defense (.614), second in tackles for loss per game (8.6), seventh in rushing defense (105.3), 11th in scoring defense and 24th in total defense per game (336.6).
