Troy Volleyball Prepares for Postseason Play

TROY, Ala. – Troy Volleyball gets set to take on Middle Tennessee in the first round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) from Trojan Arena on Friday, December 3 at 6:30 pm in postseason play.
This will be the second time in program history that the Trojans will participate in the NIVC, with the first coming in 2019, where Troy would beat North Carolina A&T in the first round but fall to Georgia Tech in the second round.
The winner of this matchup will face North Florida in the second round which is set for Saturday, December 4, from Trojan Arena at 1 pm.

Middle Tennessee (9-11): Coming out of Conference USA, The Blue Raiders finished the season 9-11 and 6-6 in conference play. They average 12.1 kills per set while their opponents have a .231 hitting percentage against them. In addition, they average 14 digs and 1.5 blocks per set. Middle Tennessee most recently lost to Rice in the Conference USA tournament semifinals.

Notable:
- Head coach Josh Lauer is now 73-72 in his career leading the Trojans. He is the first coach in Trojan volleyball history to lead the Trojans to three consecutive winning seasons in conference play. Coach Lauer also guided the Trojans to three victories over Power Five teams in the same season with wins over Alabama, LSU, and Virginia Tech.
- Julia Brooks earned first-team recognition for the first time in her career. Amara Anderson earned the second-team award, making it her third straight year with all-conference recognition after appearing on the All-Conference first team the last two years.
- This is the second consecutive postseason appearance in the NIVC for Troy. In their first appearance in postseason play in 2019, the Trojans beat North Carolina A&T before falling to Georgia Tech in the second round. (There was no tournament in 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic)
- In 2018 Troy beat Middle Tennessee 3-1. Cheyenne Hayes finished with a double-double, recording 14 kills and 10 digs. Amara Anderson had 48 assists and two aces, finishing with eight digs. Lacey Jeffcoat finished the match with 16 digs and a team-high four service aces. Natalie Hummel and Isabella Mitchell were also a part of the 2018 team.
- Julia Brooks is the only player in the conference to be Top 10 in four statistical categories (Hitting %, Kills/Set, Blocks/Set & Points/Set) and is the only Middle Hitter in the Top 10 in the Kills/Set and Points/Set categories and accumulated double-digit kills in 19 of 27 matches. She led the Trojans in kills with 325 on the year. She had a career-high 24 kills in the win against Georgia Southern in the last outing.
- Cheyenne Hayes now has 1652 kills in her career, putting her first all-time in kills in Trojan program history. In addition, Cheyenne Hayes became the fifth Trojan in program history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
