TROY, Ala. – The leader of one of the nation's top defensive units, Troy defensive coordinator Brandon Hall has been named a Broyles Award nominee, the Broyles Foundation announced this week. The award is presented annually to the nation's top assistant coach.
Â
In his fourth year with the program and third as defensive coordinator, Hall's defense leads the country averaging 8.5 tackles for loss per game and is third with 3.7 sacks per contest. The Trojans are 18th in total defense (322.1), 20th in yards per play (4.94) and 28th in rushing defense (123.4). The Trojans have returned three interceptions for a touchdown this year, the most by a Troy team since 2004 and tied for the third most in the country this year. Troy has multiple sacks in all but one of its games this year, which is tied for the most in the country.
Â
Individually, Javon Solomon is one of just 31 players since 2000 with 11 sacks and 17 tackles for loss through the first 10 games of the season, Carlton Martial leads the Sun Belt and ranks ninth nationally in tackles, while Solomon and Richard Jibunor are among the nation's leaders in sacks and tackles for loss.Â
Â
A 43-member selection committee of distinguished former head coaches, broadcasters, and a committee representing the FWAA will select 15 semi-finalists and five finalists from the list of nominees and an overall winner.
