TOP 100 HITTERS | TOP 100 PITCHERS
Â
TROY, Ala. – Rigsby Mosley checked in at No. 28 on D1 Baseball's list of top 100 hitters from the 2019 and 2020 seasons while Levi Thomas claimed the No. 48 spot on the prominent publication's list of top 100 pitchers. Troy is the only school in the Sun Belt to have a player in the top 50 on each list.
Â
The lists recognize the top 100 hitters and pitchers based on a full season of 2019 statistics and four weeks of 2020. To qualify, a hitter must have a minimum of 150 plate appearances in 2019 and 35 in 2020 while a pitcher must have a minimum of 100 batters faced in 2019 and 30 in 2020.
Â
Mosley batted .356 in 2019 en route to being crowned the 2019 Sun Belt batting champion and was always an extra-base threat with 28 of his 79 hits going for extra bases, including 19 doubles, the fifth-most in the league. Mosley finished last season with a hit in 14 of the final 15 games before hitting safely in the first 11 games of the 2020 season.
Â
The Maitland, Fla., native was hitting at a .351 clip and scored a team-best 20 runs before the season was abruptly halted. Ten of Mosley's 26 hits went for extra bases, highlighted by a grand slam in the Saturday contest at No. 1 Florida. The junior notched seven doubles in just 17 games, which tied for second in the Sun Belt and was the 34th-most in the country.
Â
Thomas tallied an 8-2 record in 2019 with 87 strikeouts in 80.2 innings of work and held batters to an average of .254 in his 15 starts last season. The right-hander burst into the national spotlight with his four starts of the 2020 season.
Â
The junior began the year with seven consecutive strikeouts en route to fanning a career-high 14 batters on Opening Night. Thomas posted double digit strikeouts in three of his four outings and didn't allow a run until his fourth start of the year against Michigan State. The Cullman, Ala., native also pitched six scoreless innings in the Friday night contest at No. 1 Florida.
Â
Thomas opened the year with back-to-back Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week honors and also garnered Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week recognition after week one. His 42 strikeouts are the 10th-most nationally and his ERA of 0.39 is a top-15 mark in the country. Thomas' WHIP of 0.65 was the 17th-best in the nation this season.
Â
Both Mosley and Thomas were recently named as top 400 MLB Draft prospects by Perfect Game.

On Rigsby Mosley
"This ranking solidifies my belief that Rigsby is one of the best hitters in the country. He has continued to improve since his freshman year and his overall consistency is his best attribute as a hitter. Rigsby consistently makes hard contact, hits both right handers and left handers, has extra-base ability and is extremely tough to strike out. He has all the ingredients to be a quality hitter and he continues to prove it over time. I am extremely proud that he has received this type of recognition and I am confident he will have success at the next level someday."
Â
On Levi Thomas
"Levi had a strong 2019 season but was absolutely incredible in his four starts this year which has put him in the national spotlight. He has worked hard with coach [Matt] Hancock to develop his entire package these last two years and both deserve credit. Levi is a legitimate Friday night starter with all the intangibles to be successful. He attacks hitters with outstanding stuff while competing at the highest level with supreme confidence. Through our history at Troy, we've had some great pitchers and I assure everyone that Levi's name will forever be included in that special group."
