DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – It what will be Troy's final athletic event of the foreseeable future, the Trojans' women's golf team won the Lady Cat Invitational, which was shortened to 36 holes due to the COVID-19 virus. Teams played two rounds Monday at the LPGA International Golf Course.
Troy fired a 1-over 289 in the opening round before coming back with an 11-over 299 in the second round to win by six shots over host-Bethune Cookman. ShaeLee Scarberry carded seven birdies over the two rounds – second best in the field – to finish at 2-under par and in second place individually; her fourth top 10 finish of the year.
Scarberry did the bulk of her work in the opening round with five birdies en route to a season-best 3-under 69 before shooting 1-over 73 in the afternoon flight.
The team win marks Troy's third of the year, the most by a Troy squad since the 2015-16 season.
Nicole Lorup continued her impressive season with another top-five finish as she tied for fourth place. Lorup has now placed in the top five in six of Troy's nine events this year. She finished 2-over after rounds of 71 and 75.
