TROY, Ala. – With the start of softball season just days away, the Trojans are preparing for opening weekend where they hope to begin avenging a monumental season that ended too soon a year ago.
The Troy softball team will participate in their annual pitching demonstration on Wednesday at halftime of the Troy women's basketball game against ULM at 6 p.m. before their season begins on Friday at the Troy Softball Complex.
The Trojans are coming off a second-place regular season finish in the Sun Belt Conference this past year after posting a school record 19 conference wins. The Trojans' 37 overall victories were the most since 2009, and Troy's 71 wins the past two seasons are the most in consecutive seasons since winning 75 games in 2007 and 2008.
However, the team's record-breaking season came to an end too soon in the conference tournament after dropping a 10-inning heart breaker to ULM.
"I think we have got a very talented team with a good mix of experience and newcomers," Mullins said. "I expect for us to build on last year's success and raise our standards to stay excellent in everything we do and make it into the NCAA postseason this year."
The Trojans return two essential members of the 2019 squad in Leanna Johnson and Katie Webb. Webb was tabbed a member of the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team.
Troy kicks off the season at home in 2020 Trojan Classic beginning on Friday. The Trojans take on Lipscomb at 3 p.m. and College of Charleston at 5:30 p.m.
