Troy Athletics Adds Three Support Staff Members

TROY, Ala. – Troy Director of Athletics Brent Jones announced Friday the addition of three members to the Troy Athletics Department to serve in various support staff roles.

Adam Godwin has been named the director of player performance and development for baseball, Matt Hassan has been named director of football operations and Adam Hymel has been named as assistant football strength and conditioning coach.

Adam Godwin
Former Trojan outfielder Adam Godwin joins the Troy staff as director of player performance and development for the baseball program following a four-season stint coaching in the minor leagues. The Alexander City, Ala., native began his career with Troy in 2004 and quickly climbed the record books in his two years with the Trojans. A member of Troy baseball's 2013 Hall of Fame class, he still holds Troy's career record for stolen bases with 112 and his .374 batting average is seventh all time.Â

In 2005, Godwin led the NCAA and set Troy's single-season record with 84 stolen bases. He also set the single season record for singles (75) and is fifth in hits (90). For his efforts, Godwin was named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and a second-team All-American.Â

Godwin was selected in the 11th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and played six seasons in the minor league system across four levels. He entered into coaching in 2015 in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization as the Bristol Pirates' and Morgantown Black Bears' first and third base coach. During the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Godwin assisted the Pirates' Bradenton Marauders (High-A) as a traveling coach and led instruction for base running, outfield and bunting.

His responsibilities include coordinating both the practice and game technology concepts within the program including TrackMan, Rapsodo, Synergy and BATS which are the four main pieces of technology used currently. Godwin will compile and compartmentalize all relevant data as it relates to player development and performance. He will also assist the athletics development office in fund raising directly associated with the baseball program.

Godwin is married to the former Kelly Hawkins, and the couple has one daughter, Micah Mae.

Matt Hassan
Matt Hassan joins the Troy staff as director of football operations following a one-year stint at Mercer in a similar capacity and a three-year run at Auburn where he served as a defensive analyst and operations assistant.

Prior to Auburn, Hassan spent two seasons on the coaching staff at Concordia University Chicago, working with the running backs in 2014 and tutoring linebackers in 2015, as well as coordinating academics, video and social media. He was additionally the running backs coach at Alma College in 2013.

Hassan was one of 30 participants selected for the 2014 NCAA/AFCA Future Football Coaches Academy and is a Bronze Certified Coach through the National Coaches Education Program. Hassan ranks second among career rushers at North Park University in Chicago, where he was a two-year captain, three-time offensive MVP and an All-CCIW running back in 2011 and 2012. He was vice president of the North Park Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and received the CCIW Merle Chapman Leadership Award.
A product of Glen Ellyn, Ill., he was a football and wrestling letterman at Glenbard West High School, Hassan received his bachelor's degree in history and education from North Park in 2013 and a master's degree in sports management and leadership from Concordia in 2015.Â

Adam Hymel joins the Troy staff following one year as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for football at Ole Miss. Before coming to Oxford, Hymel spent three years at Texas Tech University as the director of football mobility & agility. Prior to his time at Texas Tech, Hymel served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Tulane University, working directly with football, baseball, track, and cross country.

A native of South Louisiana, Hymel began his coaching career in 2012 as a graduate assistant on the Louisiana Tech football staff, working with both the strength and conditioning staff and the defensive line. He then spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons at Louisiana where he was a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach for football; he earned a master's degree in sport and exercise science from Louisiana.

Hymel played football at Louisiana from 2007-2011 and was a two-time letter winner at defensive tackle. During his senior year, Hymel helped the Bulldogs to a WAC Championship and Poinsettia Bowl appearance. Hymel graduated from Louisiana Tech with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and health promotion.
