TROY, Ala. – Troy pitchers combined to allow just one hit as the Trojans cruised to their sixth-straight win to open the season with a 4-0 shutout of Louisiana Tech Friday night at Riddle-Pace field. Levi Thomas didn't allow a hit and fanned 11 batters in six scoreless innings as he improved to 2-0 this season and 12-2 in his career.
Caleb Bartolero continued his hot start to the season, going 2-4 with a double and a home run to finish the night with three RBIs. Rigsby Mosley also went 2-4 with a triple and upped his career-long hitting streak to 12 games dating back to last season.
The Trojans wasted no time getting on the board as Dalton Sinquefield reached on an error before Bartolero brought him home with a double in the next at-bat. It marks the fifth game this season Troy has scored in the first inning.
Troy struck again in the third inning when Mosley drove a ball into the crevasse in right-center field for the eighth triple of his career. The next at-bat Drew Frederic hit a double to left center to score Mosley from third.
The teams exchanged four scoreless innings before Sinquefield doubled down the right-field line to put a runner in scoring position with just one out in the eighth. Bartolero delivered from the cleanup spot once again with a 394 ft., two-run shot to left center to conclude the night's scoring.
Ryan Fultz entered in the seventh inning in relief of Thomas and struck out two of the four batters he faced. Lance Johnson earned the save after he struck out two and allowed no hits in two innings of work.
Jonathan Fincher hung the loss for the Bulldogs after giving up five hits and two runs, one earned, to the Trojans. The Bulldogs drop to 4-1 on the year while Troy improves to 6-0.
Quotable – Head Coach Mark Smartt
"Levi had another remarkable night; he has really been impressive so far this season. It was a good win over a quality ball club. We've become an extra-base type team early this season and I hope it continues. We're looking forward to going for a series victory tomorrow afternoon."
