Women's Basketball Adds One During Early Signing Period

TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball head coach Chanda Rigby announced the signing of high school standout, Gabbi Cartagena, to a National Letter of Intent in the early signing period that began on Wednesday. Cartagena will join the team for the 2021-22 season.

Get To Know Gabbi Cartagena
Cartagena is one of the top talents in the state of Georgia for the 2021 class and enters her senior year having scored over 1,500 career points while grabbing more than 900 rebounds. She is rated as a 3-star recruit by Prospects Nation and earned a national ranking of 37 by MaxPreps. Cartagena was a force on both offense and defense while she led Jackson High School to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 20 years. She averaged a double-double with 26.7 points and 13.2 rebounds per game while adding 2.4 assists, 2.9 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest. Her impressive showing on the court earned her numerous accolades including AJC Class AAA First Team All-State, Region Four Player of the Year and the Class 3A South Player of the Year while also being named to multiple All-Star teams across the state of Georgia. Along with starring in the gym she also did well on the softball field, posting a .344 average during the 2018-19 season. The future Trojan is also a member of the National Honor Society, National Beta Club, a Chic-Fil-A Leadership member and has earned Academic Excellence every year of high school.
