Cameron Kaye Named Campbell Trophy Semifinalist

TROY, Ala. – Troy senior long snapper Cameron Kaye has been named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy presented by Mazda, the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame announced Thursday.
Celebrating its 31st year, the award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. The NFF will announce 12-to-14 finalists in November, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2020 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The winner will see his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000 and will receive a 25-pound-bronze version of the iconic statue.
Kaye, a native of Naples, Fla., is currently enrolled in graduate school at Troy pursuing a master's degree in kinesiology after graduating Cum Laude this past spring with a degree in exercise science.
On the field, Kaye ranks as one of the top long snappers in the country. Last season, he led the Sun Belt, ranked third in the Group of Five and 14th nationally among long snappers (min. 100 snaps) per industry leader Pro Football Focus.
Off the field, he is a leader in the community as he donates his time to numerous community service projects. Kaye was the keynote speaker at LIFE Students graduation which is a program for students with developmental disabilities transitioning to the workplace. He also helps lead a small group at the Church of the Highlands in addition to active roles in the team's efforts around the local community which include visits to area elementary schools, the Christian Love Center and the Noble Manner Nursing Home.
Candidates for the award must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.
