TROY, Ala. – Former Troy offensive lineman Kirk Kelley has been selected to play in the All-Star Hula Bowl Classic in Oahu, Hawai'i at Aloha Stadium. The game is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 26, and will be televised live on CBS Sports Network at 9 p.m. (CT).
Â
A three-time All-Sun Belt selection in his career, Kelley allowed just three sacks in more than 450 pass block situations this past season en route to earning third team All-Sun Belt honors. The Marrero, La., native was an anchor on an offensive line that paved the way for Troy to rank among the league leaders in total offense, passing offense and scoring offense.Â
Â
Kelley started 36 games for the Trojans over his final three seasons and helped lead Troy to a 36-15 record over his four-year career.
Â
As a junior, Kelley allowed just five pressures and no sacks in 703 total offensive snaps to land a spot on the All-Sun Belt First Team. He played both left guard (543 snaps) and left tackle (84 snaps) and posted seven great blocks in back-to-back starts against South Alabama and Louisiana.Â
Â
The Hula Bowl, which dates back to 1946, returns following a 12-year hiatus. Former NFL head coaches Rex Ryan and Mike Smith have been tabbed to coach the two squads which will feature players from the United States, Australia and Japan. The Hula Bowl over the years has showcased many iconic players including Heisman Trophy winners Steve Spurrier, Tony Dorsett, Marcus Allen, Tim Brown, Ricky Williams and Danny Wuerffel.
