Troy Completes Perfect Weekend, Makes History

TROY, Ala. – Troy capped off a perfect 3-0 weekend at the Trojan Classic Saturday in Trojan Arena with wins over Southern and Florida A&M. The Trojans downed the Jaguars in the morning game, 3-1 (25-17, 25-12, 19-25, 25-17) and the Rattlers, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) in the evening game.
Troy's 10-2 record marks the Trojans' best start to a season since the school turned Division I in 1993. It's 10 non-conference wins also tie for the most since 2002.
Cheyenne Hayes registered a double-double (17 K/12 DIG) in Troy's first win of the day over Southern. Julia Brooks added 17 kills of her own hitting .520 during the match while Alison Siersma slammed home eight kills. Amara Anderson assisted on 46 points for the Trojans.
Hayes posted 15 kills in another impressive match, this time against Florida A&M. Two freshmen made their presence felt offensively as Ashley Guenveur finished with nine kills while Brooks added nine. Anderson recorded a double-double against the Rattlers, registering 37 assists and 12 digs.
Lacey Jeffcoat was on fire from the service line all weekend. The sophomore finished with 9 aces, including a season-high six against Southern.
"It was a good weekend," head coach Josh Lauer said. "A lot of gritty play. I'm really proud of the way we played throughout the weekend. It was good to finish non-conference with a sweep and I feel really good about where we're at right now heading into conference play."

Things were tight early at 11-11 before the Trojans went on a 5-0 run to pull ahead 16-11. Jeffcoat's serving was on point in the opening set, recording two aces to help clinch set one, 25-17.
The Trojan offense was firing on all cylinders in set two as the team turned in an impressive .517 hitting percentage. Hayes recorded seven of her 17 kills in the set to help lead Troy to a 25-12 win in the second set.
The Jaguars wouldn't go away quietly, however. Southern responded with a 25-19 win in the third set to pull within 2-1 of the Trojans.
Jeffcoat anchored the Trojan defense in the fourth and final set with six digs. Troy led 18-17 before going on a 7-0 run to clinch the match, 3-1 (25-17, 25-12, 19-25, 25-17).
How It Happened – FAMU
Troy jumped on the Rattlers from the get-go, racing out to a 19-13 lead. The Rattlers would pull within four at 22-18 but wouldn't be able to close the gap as Troy cruised to a 25-20 set one victory.
The Trojans jumped out to a 16-11 lead over Florida A&M in the second set before the Rattlers would pull within two at 18-16. A timely kill from Guenveur would spark a 3-0 Trojan run to distance themselves. Troy never looked back and took set two, 25-20.
The Rattlers came out swinging in the third set, racing out to a quick 8-3 lead. Troy would respond with a run of their own, however, using an ace from Natalie Hummel to take a 10-9 lead.
It was all Trojans from that point on as Troy clinched the set and match, 3-0 (25-20. 25-20, 25-18).
