Troy Dominates South 10-2, Earn Series Win

Mobile, Ala. – Troy only needed three innings to score all of its run in a dominating 10-2 win over South Alabama to earn the Sun Belt Conference baseball series victory on Saturday evening at Stanky Field.
Five Trojans (29-27, 16-14 Sun Belt) turned in multi-hit performances including six extra base hits as a squad.
Drew Frederic paced Troy at the plate going 3-for-5 with a home run, his team-leading 10th of the season, two RBI and two runs scored. Dalton Sinquefield finished with two hits including a double and his first career triple alongside two RBI and a run scored.
Sadler Goodwin, Rigsby Mosley and Logan Cerny all racked up two hits and one run scored while Goodwin and Cerny added two RBI to their stat lines.
On the mound, Max Newton posted a great performance tossing a career-high seven innings giving up two runs on eight hits with a season-high five strikeouts on the night.
Lance Johnson closed the game pitching two innings only giving up one hit in a perfect six batters faced.
Troy trailed 1-0 before Frederic tied the game in the top of the fourth with a solo shot to center field. In the same inning, Sinquefield hit an RBI-triple and Cerny notched an RBI-double to give Troy the 3-1 lead.
The Trojans added three runs in the seventh off RBI-singles from Mosley, Frederic and Goodwin to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Troy capped off its offensive explosion in the eighth off an RBI-double from Cerny and a two-run homer from pinch hitter Austin Garofalo, his first career home run.
