TROY, Alabama – Featuring arguably the best home slate in school history and a nationally televised home game, the 2019 Troy football schedule was released Friday morning by the Sun Belt Conference office. The Trojans open the season with three of their first four games at The Vet and end the year hosting Appalachian State.
Troy's annual "Battle for the Belt" rivalry game against South Alabama is the lone mid-week game currently on the docket for the Trojans. ESPN2 cameras will be in The Vet for the in-state showdown on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Chip Lindsey's squad opens the season with a trio of non-conference games – Campbell (Aug. 31), Southern Miss (Sept. 14) and Akron (Sept. 21) – before opening the league schedule with a visit from Arkansas State (Sept. 28) in what will be the Red Wolves first trip to Troy since 2016.
Troy travels to Missouri on Oct. 5 looking for its third straight win over a Power Five opponent following wins over LSU and Nebraska each of the past two seasons.
A stretch of four of five on the road awaits the Trojans following the "Battle for the Belt" with the Jags. Troy travels to Georgia State (Oct. 26) and Coastal Carolina (Nov. 2) before welcoming Georgia Southern on Nov. 9 for Homecoming.
After hosting Texas State each of the last two years, Troy will make the trip to San Marcos on Nov. 16 before wrapping up the season with the two teams who participated in last season's inaugural Sun Belt Championship Game.
Troy travels to Lafayette, La., for the first time since 2015 – a game that started Troy's current run of 32 wins over the last 40 games – to take on Louisiana on Nov. 23.
The Sun Belt Conference once again matched up Troy and Appalachian State on the final week of the regular season as both figure to be among the preseason favorites to win the Sun Belt East Division.
The Sun Belt Conference Championship Game will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7, on the campus of one of the two division winners.
Television coverage and game times for the first three weeks of the season will be announced in the coming months, while the broadcast network and game times for the remaining games will be set 12 days prior to each game. Dates and times for games are subject to change due to network television.
