Troy, Ala. – Amara Anderson has been named Sun Belt Setter of the Week, the league office announced Monday. This marks Anderson's fifth time receiving the weekly award this season and the seventh time in her career.
"Amara continues to play at an elite level and show that she's one of the best setters in the country," head coach Josh Lauer said. "She continues to lead our offense in a positive direction and be a great teammate on and off the court."
The sophomore posted an impressive weekend, recording 43 assists and 11 digs en route to her 11th double-double of the season against Appalachian State. She also posted three kills, two aces and a block in Troy's win over the Mountaineers.
Anderson was key in the Trojans' five-set win over Coastal Carolina Saturday, registering a season-high 55 assists to move into seventh on Troy's all-time assists list. She also recorded seven digs, a kill and a block to propel Troy to its 15th straight home win, tied for the seventh-longest active streak nationally.
The Alpharetta, Ga. native ranks among the best setters in the nation this season. Anderson is averaging 11.42 assists per set, the seventh-best mark in the country, and is one of eight Division I players to eclipse the 1,000 total assists mark this season.
Troy returns to action Wednesday for a non-conference contest at Alabama State. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Montgomery.
