Trojans Open Three Game Road Swing at Texas A&M

TROY, Ala. – The Troy Trojans men's basketball program will face off with coach Buzz Williams and the Texas A&M Aggies Wednesday night at Reed Arena. The matchup will air live on SEC + and will also be available on the Troy Sports Radio Network. Tip-off from College Station is set for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT- (Troy, 1-3
The Trojans earned the first win of the 'Scott Cross Era' Monday evening, defeating Carver Bible College 84-57 at Trojan Arena. In the game, five different Trojans scored in double figures including Davion Thomas (14 points, 5 rebounds) and KJ Simon (11 points, 11 rebounds). Thomas' 14 points were a new career-high for the forward, while Simon recorded his first-career double-double. The victory improved Troy to 2-0 all-time against the Cougars.
LAST TIME OUT- (Texas A&M, 2-1)
The Texas A&M Aggies enter Year One of the 'Buzz Williams Era' in 2019-20. A former assistant at Texas A&M, Williams makes his return to College Station after spending seven years at Marquette and six years at Virginia Tech. The aggies opened the season with back-to-back victories, defeating Northwestern State University (77-63) and Sun Belt member ULM (63-57). The Aggies fell in their last time out to No. 8 Gonzaga, 79-49. In that game, Texas A&M allowed a 29-5 run that propelled the Bulldogs to 40-19 halftime advantage. In the first half of that ballgame, A&M shot just 6-25 (24 percent) from the field and 0-7 from 3-point range. Three Aggies are currently scoring at least 10-points-per-game led by Jay Jay Chandler (11.7 points) and Savion Flagg (10.7 points).

• Troy head coach Scott Cross was actually recruited to UT Arlington by current Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams.
• Troy is 2-24 all-time against power five opponents. The Trojans last defeated a power five opponent on Nov. 9, 2012 in the Trojan Arena debut. In that game, Troy defeated Mississippi State, 56-53. The Trojans last P5 road victory was Dec. 4, 2009 at Auburn (81-77).
• Tonight's matchup will be the first of three matchups for Troy against teams from the state of Texas. The Trojans visit Texas State (Jan. 4) and host UT Arlington.
• After opening the season with three of four games at Trojan Arena, Troy opens a three-game road trip Wednesday
• The Trojans received at least 10 points from five different players Monday night. Davion Thomas and Zay Williams (14 points each) led the way for Troy, followed by Darian Adams (11 pts, 5 assists), KJ Simon (11 pts, 11 rebounds) and Tyrek Williams.
