TROY, Ala. – First-year Troy offensive coordinator Ryan Pugh is one of 41 assistant coaches nominated for the Broyles Award, the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation announced Wednesday. The award is presented annually to the nation's top assistant coach.
Â
Pugh, a Hoover, Alabama native, has helped guide the Trojans to one of the top offensive units in the country. Troy ranks 10th nationally and first in the Sun Belt averaging 320.3 yards per game through the air, and the Trojans are 22nd in the country in scoring (36.3) and 19th in total offense (408.2).
Â
Troy has already amassed 500-plus yards in six games to tie the school's DI record while Troy's 327 points are the second most by a Trojan squad through nine games during the DI era. Quarterback Kaleb Barker is on pace for a record-breaking season with 24 touchdown passes and 2,789 passing yards.
Â
Additionally, Troy leads the country with 11 different individual 100-yard receiving games, including five from Kaylon Geiger; the third-most in the country. The Trojans have scored 30-plus points in four straight games – the eighth longest active streak in the country – and have topped the 500-yard mark in three straight games – a fourth would be a Troy record.Â
Â
A 20-member selection committee of distinguished former head coaches, broadcasters and a committee representing the FWAA will select 15 semifinalists and five finalists from the list of nominees and an overall winner.Â
