TROY, Ala. – Troy picked up its eighth conference win of the season Saturday night over Georgia Southern, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-17), avenging a four-set loss to the Eagles on October 4. The Trojans' eight Sun Belt wins are the second-most conference wins in a single season in school history (2012, 10-5 Sun Belt).
Troy (18-4, 8-2 Sun Belt) made quick work of the Eagles, clinching the sweep in just one hour and 15 minutes. Dating back to last season, the Trojans have won 13 straight matches inside Trojan Arena. This is only the third time this century Troy has won more than 16 matches in a season.
Four Trojans recorded double digit points, led by Ashley Guenveur's sixth double-double of the season. The freshman tallied 10 kills and 16 digs, while Cheyenne Hayes also recorded 10 kills. Amara Anderson was efficient once again running the Trojan offense, registering 36 assists in three sets.
Troy was aggressive at the net all night, finishing the match with six total blocks. Julia Brooks had three solo blocks and a block assist while Caitlin Cooper posted two solos and an assist.
"I thought we played with even more intensity than we did last night," head coach Josh Lauer said. "I thought our offensive efficiency was much better. I thought Amara did a great job distributing our offense with four players posting more than ten points."
Set One
Troy was aggressive early and often, jumping out to a quick 6-3 lead before the Eagles went on a 4-1 run to tie the match 7-7. The Trojans would respond with an 8-0 run of their own through a Georgia Southern timeout to take control of the set. Troy wouldn't look back from that point on in its 25-17 set one victory. Guenveur led all players with four kills in the opening set.
Set Two
Set two was much of the same as Troy took over the match. The Trojans raced out to 4-0 lead to force an early Georgia Southern timeout.
