Volleyball Set for Exhibition at Samford

TROY, Alabama – A young, but talented Troy volleyball team will take the court for the first time together Saturday, as the Trojans meet Samford in Birmingham for an exhibition prior to the start of the regular season; the match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
Last year, Troy won its first Sun Belt Conference Tournament game in four years when it knocked out rival South Alabama in the opening round. Only seven players are returning from that squad, so fans can expect to see a heavy dose of freshman talent on display this season.
Troy will look to its lone senior, Logan Page, along with a supporting cast of four juniors – Kiara Barrett, Savannah Moore, Belle Waldrop and Jenni Young – and sophomores Cheyenne Hayes and Saragrace Wilson to help lead the squad into a new and exciting era of Trojan volleyball.
The group of freshmen, which received "High Honorable Mention" honors from Prepvolleyball.com's ranking of the top signing classes in the nation, are highlighted by Amara Anderson – the Georgia 6A High School Player of the Year in 2017.
Joining Anderson are Avery Cason, Caitlin Cooper, Halston Hillier, Natalie Hummel, Lacey Jeffcoat, Isabella Mitchell and Alison Siersma – all of whom are expected to make an instant impact on the court.
The 2018 regular season campaign will kick off on August 24 as the Trojans hosts Southern in the Troy Invitational. Earlier this week, the Trojans were picked to finish fourth in the East Division and seventh overall in the conference by the league's coaches, as opposed to sixth in the East and 11th overall in 2017.
