Freshman Annie Willis Named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week

TROY, Alabama – After a career weekend in the circle, Troy freshman Annie Willis has been named Sun Belt Pitcher of Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Willis was key in Troy's 5-0 sweep at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Orlando, earning two of Troy's five wins. She pitched 13.0 innings, only allowed seven hits during the weekend and struck out 15 batters.
Willis threw a complete game shutout against Fordham, the first of her career, and tossed a career-high 10 strikeouts. She finished the weekend with a 0.00 ERA, as she did not allow any runs to cross the plate.
The Huntsville, Ala., native improved to 4-1 on the year. She ranks 16th in the nation and leads the Sun Belt with an ERA of 0.66 through 32.0 total innings of work this season. Willis is second on the team with 32 strikeouts, and opponents are only hitting .167 with the freshman in the circle.
The Trojans will open conference play at home this weekend, hosting Georgia Southern on Friday at 2 and 4 p.m., and Saturday at noon. Admission to all Troy softball games is free.
