Troy Set to Host Trojan Classic

TROY, Alabama- The Troy softball team (6-3) welcomes Murray State, Ole Miss, Tennessee Tech, SIUE and UAB to the Troy Softball Complex for the Trojan Classic, Feb. 23-25.

Troy enters the weekend after an exciting 9-3 midweek win over the Samford, where Stephanie Snyder went 3-for-4 and Bailey Taylor posted back-to-back doubles to lift the Trojans over the Bulldogs.

The Trojans have continued to have solid performances in the circle with a 1.81 team ERA, which ranks second in the Sun Belt. Junior Peyton Glover has made six appearances with 23 strikeouts and a 1.81 ERA, while Annie Willis has only given up four hits in 10.0 innings of work. She leads the staff with a 0.70 ERA.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Tennessee Tech travels to Troy 2-7 on the year, with both wins against Western Kentucky. Raegan Sparks has been solid at the plate batting .400 with eight hits, four of which have gone for extra bases with two doubles and two home runs. Four players are batting .350 or above for the Golden Eagles. Tennessee Tech has struggled in the circle with a team ERA of 9.16 after giving up 77 hits and 72 runs so far this season.

Troy's in-stats rivalry with UAB will continue as the Blazers make the short trip at 3-7 after going 2-3 at the Mary Nutter Classic. Destini England leads the efforts with .382 at the plate with 13 hits, and four runs. Megan Smith has contributed nine hits in the form of four doubles and one home run. Freshman Emily Kachel has been the ace in the circle with a 2.67 ERA tossing 25 strikeouts through nine appearances.

SIUE returns to Troy for the second time this year. The Cougars have encountered inclement weather for the past few weeks as they have not competed since taking on Valparaiso and Alabama State in the Troy Classic. Alyssa Heron leads with five hits and five runs in eight at-bats. Neither Emily Ingles nor Corrina Rivas has allowed a run.

Murray State went 2-2 last weekend in Starkville with wins over Drake and South Alabama, but fell to host Mississippi State and in a rematch with South Alabama. Sierra Gillmore has recorded .391 at the plate with nine hits and four RBI.

    • Logan Calhoun has posted at least two hits in four of Troy's nine games this season.
    • In Troy's last outing, a 9-6 win over Samford, the Trojans posted a season-high 11 hits and Stephanie Snyder tied Katie Webb for a season-high three hits in a game.
    • Troy has made some changes defensively, with Katie Webb getting time behind the plate, Bailey Taylor at first base, and Brooke Echols in left field.
    • Troy is hitting .261 as a team, with 61 hits, 42 runs and 37 RBI
