TROY, Alabama- Troy (3-1) put five hits on the board, but was unable to capitalize as the Trojans fell to No. 13 Auburn (7-0) 5-0 under the lights on Wednesday at the Troy Softball Complex.
Â
Logan Calhoun led the squad going 2-for-3 at the plate with a base hit to third and a bunt single, while Claire Graves earned the start in the circle and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs.
Â
The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning after a walk, a Troy fielding error, a sacrifice fly and a base hit allowed three runners to get across the plate. Troy struggled to find an answer offensively until Calhoun's bunt in the bottom of the third.
Â
Auburn's Victoria Draper led-off in the top of the fifth with a base hit, but was iced by catcher Kaylee Hussey, trying to steal second. However, a walk and two more base hits allowed the Tigers to get two more runs home, giving Auburn the 5-0 lead in the fifth.
Â
Junior Kyndal Riddick entered the Trojan lineup to pinch hit for Hussey in the bottom of the fifth, and got on base with a single to the shortstop, but was thrown out trying to steal third as Troy couldn't find an answer to Auburn's powerful offense. Â
Â
Calhoun got on base again in the bottom of the sixth, but Troy's scoring campaign fell short as a double play ended the inning. The Trojan defense continued to hold the Tigers in the seventh and stepped up to the plate looking to rally.
Â
Stephanie Snyder earned her first at-bat of the season, pinch hitting for Bailey Taylor. Snyder posted an infield single to put one on, with no outs for the Trojans. Madeline Porter came through with a one-out single to put runners on first and second. Hussey grounded out to the first baseman, but advanced both runners into scoring position. But Auburn's defense stayed calm to get an easy put out to end the game.
Â
Auburn pitcher Kaylee Carlson pitched 4.0 innings, only allowing one hit, striking out seven Trojans, before Makayla Martin and Ashley Swindle came in for relief.
Â
Peyton Glover made her third appearance of the season, coming in as relief for Graves. Glover faced none batter and allowed two hits.
