TROY, Ala. – Troy women's golf head coach Randy Keck announced the signing of a pair of top prep players during the most recent signing period. Ainsley Cowart from Central High School in Carrollton, Ga., and Sarah Johnson from Florence High School in Flowood, Miss., will join the Trojans beginning with the 2019-20 season.
Cowart earned all-state honors at Central High School and put together a successful junior campaign in 2018 with six wins, 12 top-five finishes and 13 top-10 performances. She picked up victories at a USGA Qualifier for the 2018 Girls Junior Amateur Championship, the PKBGT RocketTour at the University of Georgia, the Peachtree Junior Open PGA Tour Superstore and the AJGA Preview at Chateau Elan.
Additionally, Cowart is a two-time champion at the Carolinas Georgia Junior Invitational and three-time Georgia AAAA Regional and Area individual champion.
"Ainsley is a tremendously consistent player," Keck said. "She is a really good ball striker and you know day in and day out what you are going to get from her on the golf course. Ainsley really loves the game of golf. She plays on days off, she plays on vacation – golf is her passion."
Johnson, originally from Columbia, recently moved to the United States and immediately found success. She won the 2017 Randy Watkins Junior in Madison, Miss., and the 2018 SJGT Montgomery Junior Classic which included a 3-under 69 in the final round.
"The ceiling on Sarah is unlimited, she is as long off the tee as anyone I've ever seen at the high school level and has a lot of firepower," Keck said. "Once she gets comfortable in a team setting and settled into the college life, she is going to be an amazing player. She can beat the cover off the golf ball."
