Full Schedule
TROY, Alabama – Troy men's basketball filled out the 2017-18 schedule with the announcement of 13 non-conference games on Monday.
Â
"The one word that comes to mind when I look at our schedule is 'challenging," head coach Phil Cunningham said. "That type of schedule gets our players excited, and we're looking forward to seeing how we stack up against this type of competition."
The Trojans will kickoff the season in Hawai'i in the Rainbow Classic with three games from Nov. 10-13. It will be the second consecutive year Troy has traveled to the Aloha State after defeating Hawai'i 65-63 in the sixth game of the year last season.
Â
Brewton-Parker will be the home opener on Nov. 16 before Troy gets back into tournament play as participants in the Adolph Rupp Classic.
Â
A compelling challenge awaits as the Trojans open the tournament on the road against Kentucky in Rupp Arena on Nov. 20. That will be followed by another road contest at East Tennessee State two days later before returning home to face Delaware State and UIC on Nov. 27 and 29, respectively.
Â
Another test will come in the first game of December as UAB comes to Troy to complete the home-and-home series that began last season. The final three away games will follow with matchups against Southern Miss, Arkansas and Austin Peay in the middle of the month.
Â
Milligan will be the final opponent of the non-conference season as the Buffs come to Troy on Dec. 21. That will be followed by a home game against Georgia Southern on Dec. 29 to start Sun Belt Conference play.
Â
Troy is coming off a 2016-17 campaign that saw the Trojans capture the first Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship in school history en route to its second all-time March Madness appearance. The top-two scorers, Jordon Varnado and Wesley Person, will be returning to the Trojans this year looking to build upon that success.
Three opponents--Kentucky, Arkansas, ETSU--joined Troy in the 2017 NCAA Tournament while Austin Peay was in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Kentucky and Arkansas competed in the SEC Tournament Championship and both fell in March Madness to eventual NCAA champion UNC. Troy will face North Dakota, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Hawai'i in the Rainbow Classic with North Dakota going to the NCAA Tournament in 2017 and Hawai'i in 2016.
