Troy Defeats No. 59 Old Dominion at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

ATHENS, Georgia. – Becca Horner sank the match-winning putt as No. 89 Troy defeated No. 59 Old Dominion, 3-2, Sunday on the final day of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
The Trojans dropped a pair of tough 3-2 matches to No. 11 South Carolina and No. 22 Purdue in Saturday's match play before knocking off Old Dominion on Sunday.
Fátima Fernández Cano turned in a decisive 7-and-5 victory to put the Trojans on the board, while Bianca Lohbauer defeated Maggie Simmermacher 2-and-1 for Troy's second victory in the best-of-five setting.
With a one-hole lead going heading to the 18th tee box, Horner calmly hit her putt to give the Trojans the win. It marked the second straight appearance at the Liz Murphey that the Trojans knocked off a higher ranked team – Troy defeated No. 50 at the 2014 event.
Troy now heads to Macon, Ga., for the Brickyard Collegiate at the Brickyard Golf Club. The Trojans open play Monday with 36 holes; Troy will be paired with Chattanooga and UNC Greensboro with the first groupings hitting the course at 7:30 a.m. on the 13th hole.
