Becca Hartley Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

TROY, Alabama- After an outstanding performance on the field last week, Senior Becca Hartley has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week, the league office announced  on Tuesday afternoon.

Troy (15-15, 3-3 SBC) went 3-1 on the week as it defeated Southern Miss 2-0 in walk-off fashion in a mid-week tilt. The Trojans hosted their conference home opener against Georgia State and clinched the series with two big time wins, including a nine inning walk-off in game three.

Hartley hit .615 at the plate (8-for-13) with six runs and and five RBIs. She posted three home runs in three straight games against Georgia State including a lead-off homer in game three to put the Trojans on the board early. She posted a team-high slugging percentage of 1.385 and an on base percentage of .688 to help lead the Trojans to their first conference series win of the season.

The Troy, Ala., native now has 10 home runs this season. She is just one shy of her career-high of 11 that she set last season. She now has 33 career homers to put her in solo possession of the forth place spot in the Troy record books, and she is currently tied for eighth nationally with her 10 home runs this season in 30 games played.

In Hartley's sophomore and junior seasons, The Trojans broke their own home run record two years in a row with head coach Beth Mullins at the helm. Troy posted 51 in 2015 and followed up with 62 in 2016. Hartley contributed 10 and 11 in those years, respectively.

Troy will return to the field tonight, Tuesday, March 21, to face the UAB Blazers at 6 p.m., before traveling to Conway, S.C. to face Coastal Carolina on a three-game conference series.
