Softball Heads to Alabama State for Mid-Week Match Up

TROY, Alabama- Just three days after finishing a dominating weekend at the Trojan Classic where the Trojans went 5-0, the softball team will make a short trip to Montgomery, Ala., to face Alabama State on Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT.

Troy (8-2) hosted its first tournament of the season last weekend and featured games against Jacksonville, Longwood and Samford. The Trojans came out on top as they outscored opponents in all five games 33-15.

Big performances by sophomore Stephanie Snyder and senior Becca Hartley led the efforts for Troy. Snyder leads the team in batting average (.433) after posting 13 hits, including five doubles so far this season.

As the returning home run leader, Hartley is wasting no time trying to break her season record. Last season she blasted 11 homers, and this season she has already posted five, which is tied for seventh in the country. Her 28 career home runs move her into solo possession of the fourth place spot in the Troy record books. Hartley also leads the team in runs scored (13) and RBIs (12).

In the circle for the Trojans, senior left-handed pitcher Rachel Rigney-Brown has a 1.85 era on the season and a 4-1 record. Claire Graves is coming off of a win against Jacksonville where she threw a one-hitter and has a 2.83 era on the season.

Alabama State (2-6) is coming off a 10-4 win against Fort Wayne in the final game of the Black and Gold Tournament. The Hornets return senior third baseman Kendall Core who was named Preseason SWAC Player of the Year. Â

- Troy is 22-0 all-time against Alabama State. Their last meeting was in 2016 as Troy hosted the Hornets and defeated them 9-5.
