Troy Softball Earns NFCA Academic Team Honors

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association named Troy softball an Easton/NFCA Academic Team as the Trojans earned an eighth place national ranking in Division I with a 3.585 team GPA for the 2016-17 academic year, the NFCA announced on Tuesday.

The rankings recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions. Garnering the highest GPA in the other college divisions were Western Carolina University (NCAA DI - 3.673), Newberry College (NCAA DIII - 3.675), Siena Heights University (NAIA - 3.780) and College of Southern Idaho (Junior College – 3.686).

Leading the efforts in the classroom for the Trojans were freshman Grace Mirly and sophomore Madeline Porter who each earned a 4.0 GPA. Jordan Gray, who graduated this summer with a degree in psychology, finished the year with a 3.9 GPA. Seven other players earned a GPA of 3.5 or above.

Troy led the Sun Belt's 10 softball institutions, and was one of just two schools to have over a 3.50 GPA as a team. Troy is the only Sun Belt school represented in the NFCA top-10.
