Â
TROY, Alabama – Troy and Akron will meet on the football field in 2017 and 2019, both schools announced Tuesday morning. Troy will play host to Akron on Sept. 16, 2017, in Veterans Memorial Stadium, while the Trojans will make the return trip in 2019. Additionally, Troy will also travel to Missouri in 2019.
Â
"It is important for our football program and our fan base to have six home games every year at a minimum," Troy Athletics Director Jeremy McClain said. "With NC State having to move our game next season, this is a great series for us against a Group of Five opponent."
Â
Troy and Akron have never met on the football field, but this will mark the second home-and-home series between Troy and a school from the Mid-American Conference. Troy and Bowling Green split a pair of games in 2009 and 2010, each winning on their own home field. Troy has played three bowl games against MAC teams – Central Michigan, Ohio and Northern Illinois.
Â
Troy will travel to Columbia, Mo., on Oct. 19, 2019, for the fourth meeting between Troy and Missouri. The Trojans knocked off the Tigers, who were ranked No. 17 at the time, 24-14 in Veterans Memorial Stadium in 2004. The original series was a 2-for-1 deal as the Trojans made visits to Faurot Field in 2002 and 2005.
