Troy Falls to Texas State in Eight Innings in Pitcher’s Dual

MOBILE, Alabama – The Troy softball team fell to Texas State 3-2 in eight innings during the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday night at Jaguar Field.
The first run of the game wasn't scored until the top of the fifth inning when Ashley Rainey singled to right field and brought Amanda Winters around for the score to give Troy (31-24, 12-14 Sun Belt) the 1-0 lead.
The Trojans' final run of the game came in the sixth inning when Becca Hartley sent a solo-shot over the center field wall.
Texas State (37-18, 15-9 Sun Belt) didn't get on the board until the sixth inning when Taylor Webb doubled to left center and scored Corrina Liscano to make the score 2-1 in the Trojans favor.
The Bobcats tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when Jaelyn Young homered to left field and sent the game into extra innings. The winning run came in the bottom of the eighth when Webb was walked home.
Rachel Rigney (1-3) suffered the loss for the Trojans. She pitched seven innings, gave up only three runs on eight hits and only walked three batters. Randi Rupp (27-10) got the win in the circle for the Bobcats. She tossed the complete game and gave up two runs on five hits and struck out ten batters.
The Trojans will be back in action on Thursday and will face either UL Lafayette or Georgia State at 3 p.m.
