TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team won for the fifth time in its last six matches, beating Appalachian State, 4-2, at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Thursday morning.
Troy (10-4, 2-0) picked up its second Sun Belt win of the season and also became just the second Sun Belt team to reach 10 wins this spring.
The Trojans started the day with a dominant doubles performance, including a 6-0 win by Nancy Karaky and Sanae Ohta at No. 3, their fifth straight doubles win. Hannah Seizer and Alicia Rodriguez clinched the opening point with a 6-3 win at No. 1.
Ohta gave Troy a 2-0 lead as she opened the singles scoring with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Gabrielle Wreder at No. 3, marking Ohta's sixth straight singles win. Appalachian State (4-9, 0-1) then got on the board with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles.
Karaky put Troy up 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Rebecca Morse at No. 5 singles, giving Karaky five straight singles win.
After the Mountaineers won at No. 4 to get within one, 3-2, Luisa Ferrauti clinched the match for Troy with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles.
Troy returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Tallahassee to take on Florida State at 3:30 p.m. CT. The Trojans are back at home on Wednesday when they host No. 45 South Alabama at the Lunsford Tennis Complex at 3 p.m.
