Troy Beats Alabama State in Home Opener

TROY, Alabama - The Troy women's tennis team opened its home schedule with a 5-2 win over Alabama State at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
Troy (5-2) cruised to the doubles point, winning all three matches while dropping just five combined games. Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky won at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, followed by Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina winning by the same score at No. 2. Alicia Rodriguez and Tereza Melicharkova finished the sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 1.
Hannah Seizer started singles play with an easy straight-set win, 6-1, 6-0, over Brankica Orlovic at No. 2 singles. The win was the first singles win of the season for Seizer.
After Alabama State (3-5) got on the board with a win at No. 6, Karaky put the Trojans up 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Gabriela Lackova at No. 3 singles. Rodriguez then clinched the match for Troy with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Irina Cvijovic at No. 5 singles.
Xue closed out Troy's scoring with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, win at No. 1 singles. The Hornets picked up their final point with a three-set win at No. 4 singles.
Troy returns to the court on Sunday when it hosts North Florida at the Lunsford Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
